Over the holiday weekend a buddy of mine and I went up to Holiday Valley in NY. We had planned on going to the Cannan Valley, but everyplace was booked that was reasonably priced and we didn't want to stay all the way down in Elkins. We called an audible and headed up to Holiday Valley in NY. While Columbus is NOT a good ski town at all it is much better than Dirtyham. Within 5.5 hours we can get to Snowshoe, the Canaan Valley, Blue Knob PA, and Holiday Valley. The weather and snow between these places can vary. We stayed in a dirtbag motel that wasn't too bad, heck I'd take my wife.
Holiday Valley is a fun place that is really well ran from what I could tell. Even on a holiday weekend the lift lines were totally manageable if you hit the singles line. Lift tickets are quite reasonable at $102 for both Saturday and Sunday 8:30 am - 10:30 pm. They get 180 inches of snow, 58 runs, 750 feet of vertical, high speed quads, some off-piste glades and plenty of snowmaking. Overall, most runs seemed to be a good bit less than the full 750, but at least we were able to make lap after lap, after lap on the chairs that accessed the most advanced terrain that had a good fall line. They had two inches on Friday and then Sunday AM there were two new inches and it snowed until we left at 2:00.
Some moguls.
Saturday night we ate at this excellent place called Beefeaters in Bradford, PA. They take their beef so serious that they even have a stained glass window dedicated to beef. The traditional roast beef sandwich with homemade bread, brown gravy and mashed potatoes that I had there was the best meal I have had in 6 months. Man that place was guud!
These next two pics are of the Wall. The resorts only double black. Yeah, it is double black steep in a section, but only for like two turns or 50 feet of vertical.
I get asked about my lovely skis all the time.
The worst lift line I could find on Sunday:
XYZ!
Holiday Valley is a fun place even though it has limited vertical. It is a good skiing option from Columbus Ohio. I'd go again with the Mrs.
