Best March weekend I've ever seen. The base will certainly last until closing day on March 17 after the dump of 22-24 inches on Tue-Wed, March 5-6. Locals took full advantage of school being closed on Thu.

Temps got into the 50's on Sat, March 9, quickly cooled off after the sun went behind the mountain, down to 38 by 6pm. Didn't ski much since we didn't arrive until mid-afternoon. Enough to know that everything was groomed flat after Wed, except MAKattack. Big bumps to be found there. Paradice is flatter than usual. Before there were contours based on snow guns whales. A couple friends said the morning was great, but got messy by early afternoon. Not so much slushy, but more a matter of small chunks.

Just enough snow left in the valley for a little sliding fun

Yes, can ski trees at Mnut ;-)

View from the top, some snow left on rooftops

Deep at the end of the ramp near the base of Lift 4 for Southern Comfort

Yeah, not worth more than a 3-4 hour drive, even for a weekend. Although for a 4-day holiday weekend with kids, if the budget can handle ski school for a day or two there is no better place to learn in NC, VA, or southern WV in my opinion. Especially if parents have the skills to ski off Lift 6. Or if they are intermediates who want to learn more. The 90-min clinic is a good deal given the quality of the instructors. Can work well for kids age 7+ as a cheaper alternative to ski school. That's what Marz Jr. did when she got old enough. Even on weekends, possible to end up with a semi-private for the 5:30pm timeslot.

Sunday was a great spring skiing day, even though a bit too warm for good snow by lunch time. Temps got into the 50's with plenty of sun. But still had a little snow left in the valley and on the ridge for pretty views. We were with several friends, some regulars at Mnut and others exploring it for the first time. Season pass holders could get a friend a lift ticket for $15. Certainly more people than usual were taking advantage of late season rates and full coverage.

Rode up the lift with a couple grandparents visiting from NY. They were surprised to hear that normally there is no snow in the trees. ;-)

The Silver Clinic (over 50) turned into private for me. $30 for 2 hours with Walter, who is a very experienced Level 3 instructor. One of the main reasons I went back for a final weekend. Unbeatable value!

Mnut will be open for at least one more week, but I'm done. Heading west for my last ski days of the season.

Melting fast off ski lodge roof at 9am, never got below 42 overnight

Happy parents with our tween daughters up top. Father and daughter (in red) were new to Mnut. No NASTAR but he and the girls found ways to race for fun on the empty slopes in the morning.

Only tracks in the woods, no people, not worth trying to make new ones any more

Jam: the big guy in blue went off into the woods one time towards the bottom of Diamond Jim, heading towards the lift line. He can ski anything at Blue Knob. Marz Jr. wanted to do tree skiing, but he said to forget it. Temps were too warm on Sat. Snow in the trees did look pretty though. :)

What I want next winter is another snowstorm in Dec like the one that shut down roads around Charlottesville and DC a few years ago. That made for a great start to the season.
