The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

For those who want to gain more confidence before trying a southeast black, the very top of Upper Showtime is a very short section that ski school uses to teach the kids how to handle turns on something steeper. Or can unload at the mid-station of Lift 5 to stick with Pacesetter and Lower Showtime. I expect Lower MAKAttack will be open soon too. Staying on Pacesetter and Lower MAKAttack is another way to feel like you have the place to yourself.

The 90-min lesson for $35 for intermediates is a great deal. Offered at 10:00, 1:30, 5:30. Can often end up with a private at 5:30. Mnut has more very experienced instructors than you might expect. My teen daughter still learns stuff at a clinic, and she is Level 8 in Alta ski school. She hasn't had an instructor she hasn't liked since she started in 2004.

I've been taking advantage of the Silver Clinic (over 50) on Sun afternoons. Two hours with a very experienced instructor for $30. For those who know PSIA, Walter is Level III. Great for any boomer skier at any ability level.

The weekend of Jan. 11-12 would be a good time to check out Mnut. Freestyle of Charlottesville is doing a free demo tent from 9:00-3:00 at the base of Lift 6, so easy to lap DJ or Paradice.

Last season there was a good selection of all-mountain skis from Blizzard, Rossi, K2, Scott, Nordica, Dynastar, Volkl and Head. Heard they will have the Volkl RTM81 and RTM84. Most were skis that would be good out west or in the northeast as well as in the Mid-Atlantic, meaning 80-100cm underfoot. Freestyle also has a shop at Wintergreen and does demo days there too.

The Massanutten ski school is offering special 2-hour clinics on Jan. 12. A great deal at $30. Those are for intermediates and up. The usual 1.5 hour group lessons cost $35.

Sunday, Jan. 12, 9:30-11:30: Women's Clinic, ages 12 and up

Sunday, Jan. 12, 1:00-3:00: Intermediate Clinic, ages 12 and up

I'll be at Mnut Jan. 8-12. Hope to see a few new SkiSE faces on the weekend. My white helmet has stickers for Alta, EpicSki, and SkiSE.

Marzski- Your unofficial guide is outstanding.Loved the detail, the pictures, and addressing all levels of skiers. I hate to read reviews where you only hear about the the black diamonds and steeps. I really liked the part where you give advice on how to work your way up to Lift 6.

Have you done any other detailed reviews like this for any other ski resorts/areas. If not you really should. You do a great job.

Thanks! I know what you mean about reviews and threads that make it sound like a place is only fun for advanced/expert skiers. Answering questions about Mnut over the years made it relatively easy to put together the guide. There are good examples over on EpicSki for other places, including some smaller ski areas.

If I can get to Wintergreen in Jan, I may do a guide. Helps to have pictures to help tell the story.
