Well, not literally hell, but there sure is at Purgatory!
I've found my way up to DMR to slide around on the cold stuff 5 times so far this season. Altitude sickness and an almost 3-month-long upper respiratory infection kept me off the CO slopes last year so it was like starting aaaaaall over again.
Spent the first few days solo in the beginner area getting that feel again, figuring out the whole stopping thing (preferably by not using my knees as backwards brakes), and just basking in the glory that is CO livin'.
The s/o has been out with me almost each time -- since he's been boarding off & on for over 10 years he went up and did runs while I hung out in the lower section. He's a goof-off too...
Don't get me wrong, lower area is defo still on the hard-pack side, but it is nothing like East Coast ice crust. It'd been a few weeks since the last good snow up there.
Yep, this makes me happy happy
Decided to close out the year with a New Year's Eve trek up the mountain finally -- made plans the night before and picked out a few green runs. We ended up on different runs lol but dang fun!
Obligatory lift shot (Troy you should recognize this as the Twilight lift):
About 10ft from behind JT here (at the right tree shadow), it drops down into the large meadow area....found a true powder stash to the right at the end of some trees and I decided to fly right into it. BEST.THIRTY.FEET.OF.THE.DAY.
I slid in, felt like I was on pillows, flopped over laughing and yelling OMG I LOVE POWDER!! lol
We decided to take a run called Nature's Trail that went through trees...green run but had some spots that were quite possibly a little more than I should have tried on the first time out but this run was so much fun. I was going pretty fast (see braking comment mentioned earlier) but the whole time it just felt right. I kept riding switch -- at first using it as a cheat so toeside would be with the curve/slope of the run, then after that I was riding switch just to determine what felt more natural.
I had a banger of a fall where I popped my head on the run (YAY for HELMETS!)...we were near the end of Nature's where it fed into Pinkerton Toll Road (a flatter more gradual green). Pinkerton was fun, pretty easy, then I hit some bumps on the left side of the trail, lost my footing, and landed flat on my tailbone which then felt like it compressed my whole neck/spine/everything. Adding that to the head pop, I landed an attack migraine that ended my day -- couldn't keep my eyes open for longer than about 5-10 secons so definitely couldn't even finish getting downhill. First trip up, first patrol ride down. LOL ending 2013 with a bang I suppose.
Reppin' at the Old Schoolhouse Cafe & Saloon - right smack on the front door:
Can't wait for this weekend to come -- if I go Saturday & Sunday, then Sunday will be my season pass break-even day...and it's only early January -- there's still 3 1/2 months of riding left to do!

Making this the ongoing season-long Purg TR...
Went again this past Sunday on locals day -- $40 lifties (versus $77). Base area and the restaurant/bar were the only areas that seemed on the "cluttered with people" side. Had some really great runs then watched the Panthers end their season.
I did learn on this trip not to have a Bloody Mary at 10am from Purgy's....too spicy for someone who isn't supposed to consume spicy things. But dangit it was GOOD.
Windy and snowy upon arrival - there's mountains in the background, I promise.
The Twilight Lift is quite slow, but with the snow blowing straight into our faces it felt like little ice pellets. (approaching mid-load station)
Obligatory lift shot
The clouds parted and gave way to a beautiful day (before turning gray and spitting snow again around 2p)
Reppin it Panthers style

Yeah kd we're soooooooooo dry from a humidity standpoint, & everything hitting the front range is missing us. Silverton looks decent in comparison but I don't know how far off their YTD is to their average.
And lol....I don't have a Broncos jersey yet. ...KnowMo will be the one. Gotta rep those UGA boys
