Winter's Place 1-29-2014
School was cancelled today for half the country so we decided to visit this new Raleigh ski resort Winter's Place (not to be confused with Winterplace...)
Conditions were epic - the mountain only had one park run, but it was completely open.
Check out the video - lot's of 180's and 360's:

We got out early before the lift opened to earn some turns...
Park crew was out in full force:
Daniel landed a one footer:
Some of the kids in the park were incredibly good - This isn't an camera angle trick, this guy literally is 6" off the ground right here:
I had to show them how it was done - this is how I roll - go big or go home.
The little kids had a blast on the tube slides:
It started to get cold so we went inside for an early lunch:
There's a really upscale lunch spot at the top of the mountain with incredible views - I had the vegetable lasagna with broccoli rabe - highly recommended:
We went back out after lunch -- this place looks like it's growing rapidly, they opened a 2nd run called "Neighbor's driveway" - unfortunately the lift lines were long and it was overrun with gapers tubing:
Ski patrol came out to restore order:
The main runs were starting to get a little over skied by mid morning so the park crew did a little mid day regrooming - they had tons of reserve snow everywhere and lots of manpower:
We came back inside and got to meet the chef, she was working on a new dish - she called it "fried rice with beef", looked pretty innovative:
All in all this was one of the best trips we've done all season - you can't beat the convenience, and everyone was super friendly,. The mountain is a bit small (I estimate about 20-30' vertical) but the conditions were fantastic.
Great snow, Great food, great fun - what more can you ask for?

This is a very troubling trip report -- while these people knew what they were doing and had the right gear to hit this terrain a lot more people don't and will get the wrong idea.
Remember, on these rare events, the safest thing is to stay inside with a good supply of Bunny Brand Sliced Bread.

Hey now, I was packed & ready to go... Just too much miscommunication at the last minute and that dreaded W O R K thing that pays for it all but also cuts into ski time significantly this past year or two...
