Left Nashville and had an hour layover in Denver so I got to watch the 2Q of the big game there and boy was it quiet. A lot of unhappy campers.

First day on the snow this season and this was my first time to ski PCMR. All the staff I ran into were very friendly and helpful. I got a good deal using liftopia (saved 35%).

First impression: this mountain is confusing to navigate and others I talked to felt the the same. Many who had skied here before still thought the same thing too. They did have almost every run open with a few exceptions. More runs groomed than not. They need some snow, it was icy in a number of spots especially on the steeper terrain so I decided not to venture on any blacks and just eased into my first day on skis this year, which I think was a good plan. Not too cold with temps in the 20's yesterday. In the past 48 hours we have only gotten 2 inches, but it is suppose to start snowing again tomorrow with the bigger accumulations coming friday.

Overall PCMR is decent but not something I would go out of my way again to ski again. I feel DV is a much better option in PC and when I come back in the future I will pair Canyons with DV. The lift lines were great. I never waited more than a minute or two and most of the time I just skied right on. There are some really great views of DV off the top of McConkey's lift. I did also try the alpine coaster which was a fun little diversion but it is a bit overpriced at $20.

Originally I was not going to ski PCMR at all but I had a free room in SLC for 3 nights when I found out my wife had a business trip here 3 days before i was going to come anyway so I just added this onto my trip and took a car from SLC to the resort and then back the same day. I am leaving today to head back down to PC to stay now for the rest of my original trip which includes getting spoiled rotten with a suite at the St Regis. Obviously with the ski in ski out there i will be skiing the rest of my days at DV. TR for that will follow next week and before you start whining about how there are no pics in this my tech support (Kelly Mommeh K) will post some later for me (I hope). I will post one of me over at the ski SE FB for proof!

Seriously, I think Park City is the worst major resort in UT. But the town of Park City is a blast.

I have only skied Snowbird and DV in Utah but I believe you are probably right about that Dave. Still it was a good day on the snow, but once there is gonna be enough for me. I did post on SKI SE FB page a pic of me at the top of McConkey's. the angle that that pic was taken is looking back over McK bowl but the better views up there is looking down the other direction into what I think was Lady Morgan area of DV...and that looked sweet!

Canyons, just from the couple of drive bys i had looks pretty nice. Its really big as my driver pointed out just how far there boundaries go.

And with the discount I got on the liftie it was still about 20 bucks cheaper than Snowshoe!

Don't want to hijack your TR just want to add my trip info...just got back yesterday from a week at PCMR. My family has a timeshare there so we are usually stuck and don't drive to other areas. The first day I took a lesson and started going down some of the easier blues. Agreed that on the 3rd they had some ice issues but it wasn't that bad. On Tuesday my wife caught an edge and received a concussion, which was her first day on the snow. She is ok, but that cut my day short. Wednesday it started to snow just a bit, however I was worried about my wife and only made one run from top to bottom on mostly green terrain with a few blues in the middle. Thursday we took off. Friday my wife wanted to go back out and so we went to the top of bananza and worked on some drills for a few hours. She actually went down her first blue on the way back in to the resort.

Saturday her headache was back and I wouldn't let her go out. Now Saturday it snowed hard all day, lots of powder. Now this was my first taste of deep snow and I see why it is so coveted, very fun floating through it, however I never knew it was so tough once it was well tracked. My legs took a beating, I had to call it a trip after 3 hours and just a few blue trails.

Sorry for the lack of pics

Glad you all are having fun out west. LastParrot - Sorry to hear about your wife's concussion.

My opinion of PCMR - the high speed lifts whisk folks away from the city. To ski once your away from the base - it's time to ride the fixed grip.

Any of these large resorts can be confusing. I have been to Deer Valley 4 times. It was near mid day on the 4th trip when the layout finally clicked.

And remember - There are no friends on a powder day.

I know the pic of Kelly was at the top of McConkey's bowl, and the close-up tree shot was from the lower part of McConkey's lift, but not sure about the rest.
