Left home (Fairmont WV) at 615am wehre we got about 3" overnight (to add to the 8" laying around from storm10 days ago) and continued light snow. I79 was wet turning slushy the further south I went. Exited onto Rt33 to start through mountains where heavier snow totals and snow fall continued.
Rt33East (divded 4 lane road) @ 725am
Exited Rt33, into Elkins around 745am
Traveled Rt219South (two lane road)
@818
Now the SS hill climb
Arrived top of the world at 915 (3hr which normally is 2.25 hr...not bad timing given the storm conditions). Wind on top was howling with snow sideways, some said 50+mph gusts recorded in village. Delayed opening Western Terr til noon and Soaring Eagle til 10am. I met up with WakeBoarder at 930 and we headed to open Ballhooter area to wait for openings and get out of wind. Snow was deeeeeeep and variable, little to no grooming to be seen, especially the steeper sections. Some tops were wind-blown off, but only a few spots. Snowing too hard to take pics from my lame phone camera. Here's the one I got while on the Soaring Eagle lift at 11am.
WakeBoarder took a few decent pics with his camera. We'll upload once he gets to net access (it was down at SS).
We skied Camp99 & Sawmill til noon, grabbed lunch then headed to WT. We missed opening by an hour but there was plenty of goods to be had. Snow depths were 20+" along tree lines making for faceshots & blowers. We were wiped out by 230 and finished with some cold beers. I returned home, had to work today, leaving WakeBoarder to enjoy the weekend.
Sorry for lack of skiing pics.
