I drove out of my Job site (many more of these drives and I won't have a job at that site again) at 3:30 Thursday with a possibly screw-you-attitude-I'm-going-skiing, again I need to watch that.
I arrived Purple fiddle at about 11, got the weirdest room ever even for there. But great band, anyway next morning... that was an inaccurate timeline
Stayed two nights and watched a good band but left in time to hit it before liftlines at Canaan Valley -- oh wait that's right, there are no lines at Canaan.... more or equal vert then the main part of Snowshoe but no lines
I love the chopped up crud, seriously
I love the wind blown fields that they open anyway
I really love the trees
and I love the access to the Pipeline, I hit from a new place this time that put me in the bottom of the saddle between Weiss and Bald, so I just put on my skins and climbed
I don't tire of this view
or these trees
or despite my bad shape, this climb
It's pretty awesome guys and gals

Nice! Man I need to get down there. How much off-piste snow would you say there is in the CV vs SS? Now and as a general rule of thumb. It seems like SS can get hit with more warm air.
I watch the weather at Blue Knob, CV, and SS, and it seems the further south you go the more the warm rainouts can happen even though each of those areas go up a bit in elevation as you go south.

I think Canaan is just better, I don't think any other pocket in this region could sustain Whitegrass, of course no one else has Chip, an actual force of nature. SS and CV often have differing forecasts but the Canaan region usually does better

^The difference in elevation of these locations, and the impact to temps, is small compared to their latitude differences. 1000 ft in elevation is a 3 degF change nominal, where a 100 mile latitude is a 5 deg change.

I'm not sure what you mean. I guess my point is anecdotal, but based on personal experience, the Canaan valley has better coverage in their trees. I think, but that is an impression --- except for the proof of Whitegrass compared to ... well anyone else in the region

I take your evidence as gospel, my comments were for Droogies weather question on BN, CV, SS, and south (NC). CV and SS share similar wx patterns but as you observe have microclimate differences.

I really enjoy your TR's. Due to my wife's medical condition I am limited to my chances to ski but your colorful reports brighten my day often.
