Got out for my first day of the season -- wasn't planning on it but when the rain forecast moved back some I jumped on it; it looks bad on the cams today but yesterday was sunny and perfect, not crowded at all and a $60 ticket.

First off these were three of my "Upcoming season purchases. Helmet, ON3P Billygoats, '09 Suburu Outback. Also got some tech touring bindings and bought a FusionPass to Mt. Hood for my son working minimum wage with his philosophy degree in Portland

The Billygoats were beasts and pretty tough for me on the groomers but I need to be able to ski them in all terrain, still I spent most of the day on my old nomads

They were letting us load the lifts at before 8:30 (opening was 9) , it was a very mellow vibe actually. The snow was great

I was there when they peeled back the closed net for Gunther's way. It is an excellent run, best in NC I think. Very steep at points, like you have to work to dial back your speed kind of steep, or not. I thought Of Mellow Yellow those first few runs; he would have been slicing and dicing.

Later in the season this run is going to be very cool after a good snow, it is so wide they might leave smo sides natural and even if they don't the three steep pitches are naturally going to split up how people ski them, I think the sides will be a blast and visibility is really good even if you are cruising over the roll overs

Also there are some nice side shots into the trees, but it is Sugar so I think we know how that will go.

Downside is if you ski it you got to go all the the way to the base and take that longass ride to the top again, no 1/3 loading shortcut. I wish Whoopdedoo tied into it -- that would actually be an epic run

Nice davidski! worse yet for boarders is until the other summit lift spins up, the right hook at the very bottom to get back to the main left, is uphill. I've yet to be able to carry enough momentum and have to unstrap and skate back down to the lift. Oh and a few bonus rocks right now on the inside right of that turn that handsomely reward a miss. Not very well planned to rejoin...

Yardsale , I DO owe you a beer

Spydee the Billy goats are short 176, wide 113 underfoot, and have almost no turning radius, that's what's killing me I think, and that they are burly, I'm used to soft skis
