This is the most amazing TR ever!
I once lost a ticket because I was skiing 300 mph

I may be off here... but I suspect this isn't exaclty what happened. There is no possible way a customer service dependent resort didn't reissue a ticket for a lost one with a receipt. Dad paid cash, didn't keep the receipt they provide and what, showed the kids receipt and a story or something? Smells like a turd, looks like a turd and released out the pipe like a turd. Turd..

Or it is the annual anonymous "Sugar Screwed Me Over" TR which has always been dubious in its factuality IMO. But it's just so easy to believe the Sugar did in fact screw him over.

I would of skied somewhere else after that incident, they are supposed to reissue another lift ticket if you have a receipt,I even asked the ticket counter girl(probably not the most reliable source)and she said yep, reciepts will get a new ticket! When I ski NC I usually ski Sugar w/it being closer, longer runs, better grooming but it is not w/out faults!inflated snow measurements, horrible customer service(ticketing),really lame choice of music, shooing up only 1 person at a time when there are record crowds waiting to get on the lift, etc!

Hello skipanther... and Happy Holidays. Probably much like yourself, skiiing is my favorite past time. After years of experience, and being fortunate enough to ski many places, what happened to my son and I last Sunday at Sugar was "one for the books". And yes, we did go elsewhere after the drama. Understandably so, my 16 year old son was really turned off by the way Sugar Mountain "Admin" treated us, and he didn't want to go back the next day. He said, "let's check out Beech... maybe they're cooler?". Honestly... I think if Sugar had only taken a moment to think before they acted, my story would have had a better ending. Bad business all the way around... and right here at Christmas?!? Oh well... I learned my lesson... Don't pay cash for lift tickets. My bad? So, anyway and as you stated, we skied the next day and night w lights at Beech on Monday and had a blast. For us personally, it was a better experience all around. Beech was my first but I also enjoyed Sugar and really liked them both. However, last night at dinner I asked my father why he chose Beech (over Sugar) for my first ski experience almost 50 years ago. He said he had visited both during a business trip in NC, and that he liked Beech better. He then told me that he found it to be a "better place" just by the architecture and layout alone. It was constructed originally to resemble a European village and had a true "ski haus" feel. There was a huge fireplace in the lodge and stage shows with euro-styled folk singers dressed in Bavaria garb. He said that Beech was different from Sugar, which was just bland and lacked any real personality... at least from an architectural and entertainment standpoint. Beech was more like the "real deal" ski resort. Now, please understand that was my father's opinion around 40 years ago, and both resorts have now been updated with both being very appealing in their own unique way. And after Sundays ordeal... going back to Beech was like going home in many ways. It was just more comfortable for us personally. In closing, I must say that I never hold a grudge and I'll probably ski Sugar again one day but it will be awhile. I really like Sugar, however, as a customer, I am of the opinion Sugar needs to strengthen their overall approach to customer service.skipanther wrote:I would of skied somewhere else after that incident, they are supposed to reissue another lift ticket if you have a receipt,I even asked the ticket counter girl(probably not the most reliable source)and she said yep, reciepts will get a new ticket!

This story is appalling. They are obviously so arrogant they think they can muscle their own customers. and follow it up with threats to forcibly remove you from the property and insults. I've heard of prisoners being treated better. To treat a grown man worse than an animal is disgraceful and an abomination. You would think they have a captive market, but their business will shrink, and they won't understand why. And it will be because of the rotten customer service. they need to apologize to you. I think they know how hard it would be to pack up your gear and go somewhere else at that point. And yet they are forgetting about next year.

One time I wrote Sugar management a polite email inquiring as to why skiers were not allowed in the terrain park, back when I cared about that shtuff when I was 15 or something. They asked for my address, then sent me a letter in the mail answering my question and it also included a voucher for a FREE lift ticket valid any day that season.
Sucks about the ticket though. Haven't been to sugar in a few years, but their armed security guards were always a little disturbing. I bet they don't even have band aids or cough drops on them. Truly of no use.

Sugar runs how it wants. Thats the beauty of America! The Mgmt of Sugar does what it has always done....protect their bottom line. No picnic rule indoors equals more cafeteria sales....(side note on that....Sugars cafeteria people...men and women..always are on the ball with my orders...are willing to get what you want..how you want..If you just ask and are willing to be patient they will make what you want fresh.. Very nice people.)
I personally have been told 3 times I could not drink my canned beers in the Dining room....Big deal.... We took em outside. we knew the rules...we broke em. I assume there are ABC laws prohibiting BYOB to a place that sells spirits upstairs.
Security asks you not to put all your crap all over the tables. OH MY! I have seen that place go from 20 people to slam full in 30 min once when a storm hit. People pile their stuff up on one table then sit at the next. Pretty obvious why they ask not to do that. No poles or skis inside should be a no brainer as well.
Not sure why Sugars security is armed. I have built homes in a gated community that has a private police force. Not rent a *ick security, they had full arrest authority. Not sure if the Village of Sugar employs those security or what the deal is there. However...I would think twice about busting an armed cops balls....perhaps that is why they carry. Personally I carry so I dont see any fowl there.
I personally think Sugar gives you the best bang for your buck, and has for a long time. The new trail is Awesome, Long, and is a great addition to their terrain.
