The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

TR: Mt. Hood, Oregon; one big snow cone

My intent was to make a ten day ramble forming a five state loop from Boise, ID. Alas it was not to be. I cut the trip short at the half way point because of the conditions. Not really the lack of snowfall but the high temperatures and melt refreeze cycle from portland to targhee and Salt Lake to whatever that Canadian province due north is called.

I had a great trip, my son and two fellow graduates moved to Portland last August and this was my first visit -- I loved the free lodging, at least as sanitary as half the places I stay when skiing. I loved skiing with him and room mates, and when you approach Mt. Hood for the first time it's a once in a lifetime experience.

anyway to report -- I flew into Boise and drove to Bend to ski Mt. Bachelor and when I went the next day I found the summit lift was not open and instead of skiing 1500 ft vert with all that mocking me I drove four hours and had a great half day at Mt. Hood meadows

I drove from there to portland and saw my son's new place, next day we went to Timberline.

Next two days at meadows were great, this is terrain I want to ski with more snow, it was cool to take the boys there too, since they have their T-line pass they would never otherwise go there. And the reputation is true Meadows is way better than Timberline

I'm jealous of the oregon people with their easy access to year round skiing. that's gotta be nice.
