At a bar right now. Will take a look at stuff when I get home. If I don't drink too much.jt3 wrote:KD - What are you thinking on the timing of snow to rain tomorrow? I've seen conflicting info. I hate riding in the rain!

Forecast really sucks, need some snow making temps so the hills can rebuild their bases.

Hopefully this warm rainy weather counts as the Winter thaw and we can get it out of the way soon to make way for cold and lots of snow!dreamnofpow wrote:Forecast really sucks, need some snow making temps so the hills can rebuild their bases.

A cold front is going to move through on Thursday and snowmaking should resume Thursday night. It looks like we're finally going to get a window of colder weather that lasts more than 2 days. Hallelujah.
For the last several weeks, we've been in a negative PNA, meaning a trough out west and a ridge here in the east. Resorts out west have been getting dumped on. That is about to change though as both the GFS and Euro show a positive PNA for at least the first week of the new year.
Here's the GFS ensemble 500mb 5-day average anomaly for the first 5 days of 2016. Blue!!!!
And the temperature anomaly for that same time period.....more blue!!!!
Right now, it doesn't look like snow will be a factor. I'll take cold temps though. Looking forward to riding next weekend at Beech and/or App.
All in all, the models look extremely promising for the new year. It is nice to look at them and not see a persistent blowtorch ridge over the Southeast. They're starting to look more and more like a typical El Nino setup. If we could get a southern system to line up right with some cold air that'd be awesome. We shall see. Regardless, the beginning of January looks leaps and bounds better than December.
