The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

On the first day of our trip, carvebeast and I decided to head up to the Bird. It was bittersweet. It was awesome in that the weather couldn't have been nicer. Sunny, no clouds, and temps in the mid 30's to low 40's. It kind of sucked in that EVERYTHING was chewed up. It is amazing how a place that is 2500 acres can be COMPLETELY tracked out. Regardless, we had an awesome day. We went exploring a little and Tom took the sketchiest chute ever. I was supposed to follow but after watching him I bailed. The snow was just too terrible. After some exploring we pretty much stuck to the groomers for the last part of the day. Brighton tomorrow!

I will warn you. This is a six minute long video and gets somewhat loud, and shaky since it was somewhat bumpy. It is one of my last runs top to bottom in Peruvian. Gives you a decent idea of how it was today.

Here are the stats and a link for the map of the run. I think the elevation is a little off as I thought the bottom was around 8,000 feet but who knows. I got up to 52 mph! Sweet.

Carvebeast is pumped that we were first in line for the tram.

Mineral Basin was beautiful in the morning.

We hiked maybe a couple hundred vertical feet to get some fresh tracks.

Awesome views.

More of the Basin.

That's not clouds you see in the valley. That is haze. It has been really bad the past few days. Pretty nasty.

WOOOOOO!

Cool stuff. Are you guys planning on hitting Pow Mow? It can be money when the dreaded SLC haze sets in and there hasnt been any fresh in a while.

Nah. We're in the Super 8 right near the Cottonwoods and finding a ride up there is too much trouble.

I can't express to you how stoked I am that you're doing reports while out there. Tom told me last week that you guys would be leaving the day that we fly in, Feb 2, so I get first hand knowledge of the conditions.

Last I saw, Monday and Tuesday were looking good for dumps... is this still the case?

Super perfect skies, btw, and nice shots for sure... wanna hear about the sketchy chute...

What do you use to track your runs and speed? I like the spreadsheet and map it gives you at the end.

P.S.: Sweet pics!
