It's about 8am Friday April 2nd. Sun is up and I've already been on the balcony in just a pair of shorts. We slept with the window open last night. I'm sure it's gonna be a mashed potato day. (They did groom, though.)
I brought cameras with me so I'll post some pics this evening. I'm sure there will be some good ones to be had.

Well, I was right. It was mashed potatoes out there today. There were a lot of bare spots. They closed 4 more runs overnight. I'm not sure how many will make it to Monday. Upper Ballhooter started out with a bare spot in the middle, but by the end of the day it was almost all the way across the run. Cupp Run has a lot of bare spots. They groomed the green runs last night, but not the blues or black. Lots of bumps out there. It was fun. It was warm enough that you could wear shorts at rope drop this morning. One guy was skiing in just shorts and a lei (see pic 4). There is still some natural snow left under the lifts and in the woods(see pic 3). Pic 1 & 2 were taken before rope drop this morning. I'll post more pics tomorrow.

Here's what Cupp and Shays look like. Shays is closed.
Pond skimming tomorrow. I'll try to get some pics of it.
Oh, almost forgot...I have seen evidence left from the summit in a few places. Ski NC and SKI Southeast stickers on lift chairs, lift poles, etc. Looks like the site is well represented up here.

They groomed everything overnight, but it didn't take long before most everything was in the same shape as yesterday. They were able to push some snow over some of the bare spots to keep Cupp and Upper Ballhooter open.
The pond skimming contest was crazy. Several contestants made it all the way across. We had a clown, a rabbit, a woman in a bikini, a banana, a leprechaun, a couple of guys in speed suits (one bright yellow), one guy with angel wings. I'll try to post some of the pics from it later.
Looks like the trip is gonna end early for me. I hurt my leg pretty bad today. We're heading home in the morning so I can get it x rayed to see if I cracked my shin bone.

Thanks for the TR and pics. Certainly satisfied my curiosity regarding the "what if" I had decided to make the journey up to SS for some final turns. Sorry to hear about the injury. Rough way to end a season. Have a safe trip back home.

Got home and the clinic wasn't open because of Easter so I'll go get the x-ray tomorrow. It still hurts pretty bad when I walk. Sux that I didn't get to ski today. It looked like the place was almost empty.

Scuba I think the important this is to focus on getting better and ready for next ski season. I mean c'mon you are talking about a little over 6 months before resorts start opening around the area (conditions permitting)

I'm sure I'll be fine by then. If anything it's just a hairline crack. It's not in a knee or ankle, it's right where the top of my boot comes to. I'm guessing it's just a bad bruise, but I'm gonna get an x-ray to be sure.
