The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard
The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.
We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.
We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

Cataloochee was nice 2/26-2012
Cataloochee was in very nice shape Sunday morning. I took my time getting there 'cause I expected the guns to be off by mid-morning. (I'm glad they'd been on and would have happily skied under 'em, but figured not point in rushing things since the NWS hourly forcast showed temps rising quickly )They were already off by the time I arrived a little after 9:30 and it was in the low 40's - almost shirt-sleeve weather. Coverage was great. They made snow from Friday evening through Sunday morning.
Upper O had a few dust-on-the-crust patches at first but softened up nicely as the morning wore on. There were mogels on skiers right and it was groomed on skiers left. I played in the bumps 'til my legs wore out then was able to enjoy some pretty fast runs on Rock Island 'cause the crowd was very light. Pretty much skied right onto the lift almost every time even after noon. Alley Cat was open 'til 11 and then closed for race set-up. Both it and Rock Island were in great shape with no thin spots evident. Both Upper and Lower Snowbird were open and looked pretty good (don't know for sure since I didn't ski them).
All in all one of the better days this season.

IMO Sunday was the best conditions we've had this year. The snow was fabulous.
