Well last weekend I went out to Denver to ski with a buddy. I knew the weekend was going to go well when they were serving this on Southwest

Image

I got hooked up with lift tickets for a fraction of their costs via friends and mountain employees. Friday morning was actually pretty awful skiing. Ice everywhere. FIS world championships had just finished so Beaver Creek had some odd terrain that had to wind around the courses (closed). Snow started around lunch time and pretty much it snowed on and off for the rest of the weekend from that point.

At about 1:45, they closed the entire mountain due to LIGHTENING! Never heard of that. We did was boarders do best and sat down in the snow  it's a joke relax fellas.
Image

It probably snowed about 3 inches during the 30 to 45 minute shut down. We were among the first back up the mountain and it was like first tracks all over again.

This was what the mountain looked like for the remainder of the day

At 3pm these gentleman come out with smiles on their face and give free cookies. Who doesn't like free cookies?

Really enjoyed the aspen trees you get out in that part of Colorado

Saturday we skiied Vail - I gotta say this is one of the biggest and best mountains I've ever skiied. Talk crap about it as you will, but one day I will definitely go back. I never skiied a single run on the front side, except to get back to the base at the end of the day. We lived on the Orient Express chair and Blue Sky Basin. It probably snowed 6 or 7 inches over the course of Friday night and all day Saturday. Fresh tracks could be found by traversing out into the bowls or finding difficult to reach trees.

Lines started getting REAL bad at Orient.

So we worked our way back to Blue Sky Basin and spent the rest of the day there. I met up with another friend of mine, and he showed me some fun little drops on that side...

And I finally worked up the courage to hit one

It was supposed to snow over 2 feet around the Vail pass to Denver area Saturday night and Sunday, so we drove back to Denver and opted to hit Keystone Sunday. The snow never really came, so we drove the Loveland Pass to Keystone. I had never been up there.
Image

There's a natural spring there that I filled my camelbak with. There's a sign saying this water should be purified before drinking, but I'm feeling just fine a few days later.

Jeff isn't a fan of pictures. typical local

THe only real cool thing at Keystone was the Kat ride to the Outback Bowls. They bumped the price to $10 from $5 so I only went up once. Had to leave around 2 to get back to the airport. Keystone was cool, but not my favorite.

Had a blast of a weekend. Definitely wanna go back to Vail. Oh and the dispensaries are neat :D

Nice report. Gots me pumped cause I'll be skiing Vail/BC 2 weeks from today; spending a week there! They had a dry spell Jan thru early Feb. You were lucky to catch the beginning of the rocky mtn snow machine cranking up.

Those rocks...at top of Poppyfields?

Cookies were so good. was surprised how generous they were in giving them out.

Didn't have time to drop into Loveland. Wish I did, but there were only 2 of us so I would have had to ski it solo or hitch a ride back up. Next time...

The spring is just on the downside of the pass toward Loveland. It's not really noticeable, just a little pull off on the right side of the road.

Snow should be excellent for you and looks like more is coming. I challenge you to top my 72,802 feet of vertical in 2.5 days! haha.

Those rocks I think are in Blue Sky under SKyline Express(37) around Montane Glade I think. I hardly looked at trail maps since I just followed my friend around.

Nice TR! I agree - love Vail, don't really understand all the haters.

That's a lot of vertical for 2.5 days!

Are you still going to Whistler mid-March? My son just got back and said they are hurting, lowest snowfall totals in the last 15 years and they were above 50F the whole week he was there. Still a beautiful place, if you thought Vail is big you better hold onto your hat.

i am... headed up there March 14th. can't wait. yea I've heard the same about the snow totals this season. All it takes is one decent storm close to or while I'm there and I'll be happy.

As long as nothing is exposed or unskiable...
