Ok first off, the prediction that there would be a lot of people from TX was spot on. My family were literally the only non-Coloradans not from TX. Some drive, some fly. If you're driving why not head to New Mexico tho?
It's also a really pretty drive there. One of the prettiest I've ever been on. The Canyon you drive through on I-70 was really cool, huge and layered. We saw several Big Horn sheep and mountain goats. I think the warm temps had them out foraging. It was also cool seeing the rest area past copper being used by the locals for it's ample hike-to terrain. Im kind of surprised a group hasnt tried to develop that property into a resort.
The town of Glenwood Springs itself was very cool. A lot of stuff seemed as if it were ripped right out of the movie "Cars" which was pretty cool. Imagine if Athens GA married Radiator Springs and their baby moved to Colorado. Lots of trees still had Christmas lights in them in town which I always like. The food was great. The hotel was awesome. A little too awesome, my boy loved the water slide. So much so, that when he found out the chair lifts didnt have bars to pull down, he had no interest in going and later told me he was glad I lived. Bars are a big deal to him.....want a lift ticket there? I have an extra. Anyway, about the hotel, stay 3 nights and theyll pay for a pizza and a board game for the third night. You get to take the game home. That's never happened to me before.
The days I was there I just lapped the blue groomers. All the blacks were either glades with stuff that was pretty hard to turn in (an inch or so of crust on top of a powder/slush mix) or bump runs. I ducked into the moguls off a couple of the blue runs and while I'm improving a little it seems like more work than fun. Temps topped out in the upper 40s and 50s but felt a lot warmer. I skied in my tshirt both days after 11 am or so.
First we made a side trip to keystone. I wanted to scope it out for future trip potential and it seemed like a good place to hang out for a while because my boy had been in a plane for 3 hours and on the road for almost another 2.
Here's the world's largest snow fort at an altitude such that my boy merely jogged rather than the full scale sprint he usually lives life at.

A far away shot for scale
When I say skied in a tshirt I mean this one....3 bucks at walmart. I'm a goof ball
On to sunlight
I spent most of the time on my run to the left.
One of the many bump runs
Lots of good views from the top
This run was fun too but I can't remember it's name. The place isnt that big though. I just found things I liked and lapped them.
This was off the Grizzly trail. Nice view, to my left and off camera there was a picnic table. It seemed like a great place to eat lunch
As I was about to leave there was a church group in the lodge that had decided to ski in their underwear, hence the fellow in the nighty. I was unable to determine the denomination. Spring BREAK!
Also Doc Holiday died here...

Story of the rest of the west right now too I think... Love the church group, memories, church youth group trips may have the highest hormone count anywhere.swamphox wrote: The days I was there I just lapped the blue groomers. So were you staying at the resort hotel w/ the actual hot springs, that looks like a great place for family or mixed skier/non-skier group. Btw when the trees are a go they are great:
I'd love to be there on a powder day -- also I think there is a very good multi-stop shuttle from town up to the mountain
